Valentine's Gift Guide

It’s the beginning of the year and Cupid is readying his bow and arrow for yet another busy February of love matches. That’s right, Valentines Day is fast creeping up on us but, before you panic and hastily grab for the nearest box of chocolates, don’t fear: H.Samuel is here with an entire guide choc-a-bloc with fantastic gift ideas for him and her.

Iconic fifties pin-up Marilyn Monroe once uttered the fateful words “diamonds are a girls’ best friend” – and she wasn’t far wrong. You simply cannot go wrong with a bit of sparkle for your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day. With a generous 25% off and a flawless five star customer rating, this 9ct White Gold Diamond Double Heart Pendant is just the thing to show a loved one just how much you value their companionship.

“Actions speak louder than words” - a motto many of us subscribe to but, when it comes to love, we can’t think of anything more effective than those three fateful words: I Love You. If you’re not much of a Shakespeare and the thought of pouring your heart out into a soppy card fills you with dread, then why not let your gift do the talking with this 9ct White Gold 'I Love You' Ring. Featuring a glittering heart-shaped cubic zirconia centerpiece flanked by two cubic zirconia stones, the ring is finished with a delicate engraving on the inside of the band reading “I Love You”. The perfect gift to let her know, word-for-word, just how you feel.

If, like mine, your bank account took a bit of a battering this Christmas you needn’t worry; with up to half price Valentine’s gifts and 25% off selected diamond jewellery and rings, H.Samuel has something for everyone, and every budget. If you really can’t afford to empty your pockets this February, then a photo frame is the perfect gift. One like this Joined Hearts Photo Frame is a lovely gesture, and can easily and affordably be personalised by filling with photos of you and your partner.

Whilst the pressure is traditionally on the guys to deliver on Valentine’s Day, it can be just as daunting a task for us girls; trying to buy the perfect gift that won’t make him cringe - without completely bypassing Valentine’s – can certainly be trying.

Diamonds aren’t just forever – they’re for everyone. H.Samuel is a testament that jewellery isn’t just a gift for the girls, but perfect for the guys too. This Titanium Diamond Matt & Polished Ring takes a classic men’s ring and adds a contemporary twist with a touch of sparkle. With groove detailing, a combination of matt and polished finish and a centrepiece diamond, this is a simply stylish ring he can wear any time.

If traditional jewellery isn’t his style, then why not opt for something with a bit of an edge such as these Men's Guitar Cufflinks. These are the perfect accessory for adding a quirky approach to a formal shirt.

Would he like this? Or maybe that? Perhaps he’d prefer this? If you’re as indecisive as I am, sometimes it’s not an issue of trying to find a gift, but trying to choose which gift. A gift set is a great way to get your guy more than one thing, and at fantastic value. This Boss Orange Men's Black Strap Watch and Fragrance Set is an ultra stylish set featuring a stainless steel bracelet watch and the iconic Boss Orange perfume.

Red Carpet ready.

This past week has certainly created a buzz within the celebrity world, from the BRIT Award nominations to the Golden Globes award ceremony that was held on Sunday night. This means only one thing: as Rihanna would say, ‘Shine bright like a diamond’.

The red carpet brings out a whole host of glitz and glamour, from beautiful gowns to more low key approaches and the occasional Union Jack dress which, no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to pair up with any jewellery delights.

For the gowns diamonds are a must, whether draping from your ears, wrapped tightly around your finger, sitting perfectly around your neck, or by your side on your wrist. Whether you’re after subtle or statement there is always room for diamonds as, as our dearest Marilyn once said, they are a girls’ best friend.

Adele has been a favourite on the music scene for several years, catapulting to fame in 2011 with the release of her 21 album. Her beautifully written lyrics and unique voice created something truly exceptional and whether you love or hate her, you’ve got to admit we all cried to her stunning rendition of Someone Like You at the 2011 BRIT Awards.

It was here Adele showed off her classic and elegant style. Her stunning black velvet dress with sheer embellished sleeves triumphed with a pair of large diamond cluster rings that were equally as graceful as her dress. These statement earrings complimented her simple dress perfectly and, teamed with a classic up do, definitely earned their place on the stage.

Although always beautifully feminine, Adele often keeps her red-carpet attire relatively simple. Her choice of black makes for the perfect background for diamonds to really stand out and we hope to see this sophisticated style again at this years BRIT Awards where she has been nominated for Best British Single. With a simple yet elegant gown, we’d love to see her with a statement diamond ring like this silver and diamond cluster. This eye-catching ring would certainly stand out against her simple style and would be sure to turn heads on the red carpet.

Although Little Mix are not up for an award this year, we have no doubt they will be bringing their quirky and ultra cool style to the big night. Last year, the girls oozed geek chic with bow ties, shorts and a whole lot of colour, making Paul’s Boutique our ideal choice for these Little Mixers. We love their wild and brightly coloured watches, as well as their more subtle black and silver designs. There is sure to be something for every Paul’s Boutique girl, whether you’re looking for bright and bold or something a little more tame.

Pastels are set to be a huge fashion favourite this Spring/Summer and with our personalised jewellery service it is now easier than ever to create your own unique pieces of jewellery with stones and metals that are personal to you. This cushion cut green amethyst ring ties in with diamond detailing ties into the pastel trend perfectly and would be the ideal accompaniment to a neutral coloured dress.

If you’re looking to add a personal touch to a Valentines Day gift this year, be sure to take a look at our whole range of personalised jewellery. Order before January 27th to make sure it is wrapped and ready to give to your special someone.

New Year, New Jewellery?

With the buzz of Christmas lights, feasts and gifts a distant blur, the new year has brought us a pause to assess - well, anything and everything - from our wardrobe to how many mince pies we probably shouldn’t have consumed.

For me, the new year is always an excuse to sift through my bulging wardrobe and throw out a couple of items to be replaced with numerous outfits for the “new me”....who only ever seems to hang around for the best part of a week. But with my purse decidedly empty I’ve had to accept that, this year, my bank balance just can’t take another beating. So I’m taking a new, more affordable approach; rather than revamp my entire wardrobe, my accessories will be making the change. With over two thousand items now on sale at H.Samuel, achieving a fresh new look with jewellery and accessories couldn’t be easier.

2013 is all about colour, so ditch the dull and embrace bright gemstones and vibrant enamel. Don’t be afraid – if you aren’t too confident with dramatic change, colour can be applied to all sorts of styles, allowing you to do it your way. For an elegant approach, this Silver & 9ct Gold Pink Sapphire & Cubic Zirconia Oval Ring combines delicate silver and 9ct gold with a feminine pink sapphire.

For just a subtle touch of colour, Viva Colour’s Silver & Blue Topaz Bangle combines fresh silver and smooth contemporary twists with a single blue topaz, perfect for setting off a blue slouchy knit such as this Topshop Knitted Texture Crop Jumper.

However, if you’re ready to go for the whole hog, pick a coloured stone and accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! This stunning Sterling Silver Amethyst Black & White Diamond Ring is a real eye-catcher, boasting a vibrant amethyst and treated black diamonds for a dash of edge. Pair with these Silver & 9ct Gold Amethyst Stud Earrings and matching Silver & 9ct Gold Amethyst Wrap Pendant for the complete look.

Whilst I’m all for out with the old, one 2012 trend I will be holding onto is that of the statement. From patterned trousers to chunky necklaces, I loved it. For me, the bigger the better, and in the spirit of the popular boyfriend watch and all things BIG, Paul’s Boutique is certainly the go-to. This Paul's Boutique Scarlet Gold-Plated Bracelet watch combines shining gold with a distinctive large round dial featuring, admittedly a bit of an obsession of mine, animal print and a black bejewelled bezel. This gorgeous timepiece combines statement with chic style.

If the Christmas cheer and New Year spirit has left you feeling generous, why not give him a helping hand with a bit of the new. This Citizen Eco Drive Men's Chronograph watch combines sleek style with ultimate functioning, including a chronograph, illuminating hands, date function, and water resistance up to 100 metres. A versatile watch guaranteed to inject a bit of class and style into his look

.
