All things vintage.

In the last week the buzz around twenties glamour and vintage inspired fashions have risen to an all time high, with the release of the highly anticipated movie adaption of the 1920’s novel The Great Gatsby by American author F.Scott Fitzgerald, which unravels a complex tale of love in post-war New York. Directed by Baz Luhrman, best known for his adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge, the cast includes Leonardo Di Caprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher.

Carey Mulligan, who plays Gatsby’s love-interest Daisy Buchanan in the film, portrays the iconic “flapper” look of the twenties, teaming short-bobbed hair and straight dresses with striking jewels and strings of beads in all varieties. Twenties style was proudly inspired by the infamous Art Deco style creating jewellery that was even bigger and bolder than ever before. The 1920’s style exudes sophistication and glamour so it is no wonder it is still so desirable. For women, this look was all about indulging in sparkle, lace, sumptuous silks and generous amounts of jewellery, most commonly pearls.

Pearls were a must for any upper-class women in the 1920’s, with layered sting necklaces, embellished headbands and eye-catching bracelets all boasting the timeless feminine charm of the pearl. A classic bracelet is the perfect way to recreate the simply timeless style of twenties fashion. This silver cultured freshwater pearl bracelet complete with an elegantly vintage inspired clasp combines traditional sophistication with an added touch of sparkle, to subtly reflect that glamorous flapper girl edge.

Statement was also a must for any flapper girl and these ornate cubic zirconia earrings with vintage inspired triangular drops are perfect for adding some feminine charm to your evening look. If you’re looking to create the glamorous Gatsby look, why not team with an ever faithful LBD and a chic up do, for a classic twenties edge on a must have contemporary look.

As well as timeless diamonds and pearls, vibrantly coloured precious stones are a must for creating show stopping twenties style. This striking diamond and sapphire cluster ring is perfect for making a vintage statement. With the deep and mystifying blues of the sapphire, this beautiful ring is perfect for boasting a dash of Daisy’s enviable poise and the perfect accompaniment to your favourite vintage inspired evening look.

To accessorise your style with something that can take you from day to night, why not complete your look with a classic watch. This delicate vintage inspired watch from Limit with a sparkling crystal embellished bezel and a shimmering mother of pearl dial exudes 1920’s feminine glamour. Front Cover Style

This month we saw fashion’s leading glossy magazine take a youthful approach and launch an exciting publication aimed specifically for teens. Miss Vogue goes especially girly with model of the moment Cara Delevingne as the cover star for the inaugural issue.

Cara looks pretty in pink, ditching her usual edgy style, wearing a pink sequined bralet, layered over a simple grey crop top. Her staple blonde hair and wide smile look suitably at home against the Summer inspired floral background and with layers of gold pendants draping over the grey tee it is the perfect finishing touch for an ultra feminine look. This simple style, is summer friendly and teamed with a playful skater skirt, ankle socks and a pair of your favourite plimsoll shoes, screams preppy chic and we’re lapping it up and adding these must have fashion items to our wish list for a look to rival even Cara’s sassy front cover ensemble.

The shoot oozes preppy chic with an edge of fifties flavour, combining colour blocking with bold and bright floral prints. The delicate gold jewellery added to her front cover look definitely compliments this girly fifties style and last week here at HS HQ we were very excited to see one of the lockets from our exclusive Together range take centre stage. With ornate flower detailing swirling around a central diamond, this heart shaped locket looks great teamed with this extra girly style for a flashback of fifties glamour. This look can be easily achieved by layering up necklaces of different lengths and styles. Mix and match larger pendants with smaller ones for a contemporary twist on this fun and fashionable look.

For a look that embraces the preppy trend this light pink and navy watch from Paul's Boutique has a retro edge with bold PB initials that are representative of the traditional American team spirit, which is at the fore front of this well known preppy style.

Pearls were a fashion favourite in the 1950’s with string pearl necklaces against collared shirts and pastel jumpers a must have accessory for any teenage girl. Pearls have catapulted back into the fashion world in the recent years and everything from cute pearl studs to elegant necklaces have been with teamed with contemporary edgy fashion for a twist on this timeless favourite.

This 9ct gold string pearl necklace exudes tradition and vintage style, however teamed with a boyfriend tee and high waisted jeans, old meets new with a funky edge sure to compliment the 50’s feel perfectly.

Floral Fashion

Now that temperatures are finally reaching double figures I can’t help but get excited about jetting off on holiday, socialising at BBQs and catching that all important summer tan. Although I may be a bit hopeful, as we haven’t quite escaped the winter layers, I am of course thinking about what to wear to compliment any sun kissed glow I manage to achieve that isn’t from a bottle!

It might not be too surprising to hear that floral is a key trend again this spring, however this year it seems the fashion world have gone for the ‘go big or go home’ approach with pastels and bright colours all playing a vital role in creating this statement look; not forgetting those oversized motifs sure to unlock the secret to flawless floral style this season.

For a bright seasonal look create a colourful and unique bracelet with glass beads from Charmed Memories. Finish off with this fashion forward bead, displaying striking pink flowers, a radiant white background and a sprinkling of glitter for a healthy dose of girly glamour.

As well as graphic floral prints, 3D embroidery and embellishments are another favourite choice for designers in this year’s bold floral revival. Dolce and Gabbana, in particular, completed their designs with flowers in various textures and colours on the S/S’13 catwalks that would rival even the fullest of gardens! Although some of these catwalk favourites aren’t necessarily high street friendly, it is easy to add a little flower inspired flourish to your look with some chic floral accessories for a subtle spring approach. This double flower broach embellished with sparkling crystals is perfect for adding a touch of simple glamour to your light spring jacket. I’d team this with a mint coloured blazer for a chic and preppy take on this feminine yet captivating trend.

Our new range from British designer Kit Heath embraces floral fashion in delicate pieces of silver jewellery. With a collection of necklaces, earrings and bracelets this feminine jewellery will add some seasonal sophistication to any look. For a traditional take on floral fashion, team these dainty Wisteria Drop earrings with delicate pearl detailing with the matching necklace to give your outfit a subtle touch of daytime elegance. Wear with a floaty maxi skirt and a simple tee for a boho edge sure to capture feminine elegance at its best.

Roberto Cavalli, sometimes described as the ‘King of Bling’, is notorious for bold prints, experimental graphics and of course a bit of sparkle. He created the Just Cavalli line in 2001 and shortly after in 2002 he started his Watch range. His designs target women who aren’t afraid to stand out. With such a highly imaginative and eclectic assortment there’s a watch that’s perfect for completing any fashion forward look.

For a glamorous look with an urban twist, create some contrast by pairing this elegant black maxi dress from Missguided with this bold gold watch. Just Cavalli pinpoints its alluring style with this extravagant gold-plated ladies' watch. It’s striking cut out bezel complete with the JC initials and sparkling crystal embellishment, make it perfect for creating an evening look that is certain to grab attention.

Go for statement individual style with this stainless steel bangle watch. With a snake shaped bracelet textured to give the impression of scales and a subtle dash of sparkle, this Serpentine Poison watch is the perfect accessory to team with an Aztec inspired midi dress, creating a look that is sure to take you over to the wild side.

For a look that’s perfect for spring, team this cute floral blouse from river island with this stylish ladies' bracelet watch. It’s delicate hue of rose gold plating with a splash of sparkling crystal and animal print, creates an on-trend look perfect for feminine edge.

If you’re after a more subtle Cavalli look, then opt for this classic stainless steel bracelet watch, which features a round black dial and just a touch of contrasting gold tone detailing. Wear with your favourite outfit for understated chic.

Be Charming...

Here at H.Samuel are excited about our exclusive new brand Charmed Memories, a stylish take on the classic charm bracelet. With such attention to detail, it is no wonder that Charmed Memories have a selection of beads that have been handcrafted by the most talented artisans in Italy.

Charmed Memories give you the opportunity to get creative and design a bracelet that is completely personal. It is easy to team these bracelets with any look and, with beads in so many different colours, shapes and textures, it is simple to create a fashion forward look by layering your bracelets together.

Studs and crosses have moved away from being considered purely gothic and are now more on trend, creating edgy looks for both day and evening wear. This sultry cross bead is one of my favourites;  the dark metal looks stunning in contrast with the crystals, perfect for creating a mysterious and glamorous evening look.

For a softer look fit for the spring sunshine, these Timebeads in delicate colours are an ideal accompaniment to any outfit this season. Not only are their pastel tones a key trend this Spring/Summer the watch dials mean they are functional too, perfect!

Team this bead with some pastel coloured charms, like this feminine Charmed Memories sterling silver pink Murano glass bead to complete the look.

I love how quickly you can change the look of your bracelet just by swapping some of your beads over. Simply add a one, two or even three of these beads with crystals made from genuine Swarovski elements, and create a dazzling look that instantly transforms your bracelet from day to evening and sure to suit any look in your wardrobe as they are available in a variety of different colours.

From beads that mark moments of love to moments of success, these bracelets can be created to tell the story of all your most precious memories; which is why they also make the perfect gift. Once someone begins a bracelet there is a bead that will suit every occasion, making gift buying a lot less difficult. There is even this elegant silver anniversary bead so, sorry men, but there are no excuses to be empty handed on your special day anymore as we’ve got it covered!

Love at first sight

Last weekend we saw our stores hold a nationwide wedding event in partnership with Wedding Ideas Magazine where we had expert advice on wedding rings and bridal jewellery. Not only this, our stores went the extra mile to make sure your wedding day runs as smoothly as possible in every way.

We had a great response with stores tweeting and sending us their pictures,. One of my personal favourites definitely has to be the picture of one of our lovely staff members dressed in a wedding gown to serve our customers, a great fun way to get your wedding plans on the go!

The stores looked great with florist arrangements, beautiful dresses from local bridal boutiques and even delicious cakes on hand from local bakers, ready for every bride and groom to help make their day truly special.

Although Spring is yet to, well ermm.. spring, it doesn’t mean matrimonial season slows down, with hundreds of hitches and honeymoons set to take place in the coming months. With this in mind, if you haven’t already, it’s certainly time to pick out your wedding rings.

Whether you’re looking for contemporary, vintage or shaped, there is sure to be a ring for everyone and every style. It can often be a struggle to find the perfect ring to compliment the engagement ring you’ve been ogling over for the past months, especially if your ring is a little different to the classic solitaire.

With twisted settings on engagement rings, it is normally necessary to have a shaped band to ensure your two rings sit together nicely as, after all, you will be wearing them for a long time! If when trying on a flat wedding band with engagement ring you get that oh-so-annoying gap between the diamond and band that just will not budge, go for something with a slight V shape such as this 9ct white gold and diamond ring. The very slight shaping of the ring will allow your diamond to sit within the dip, getting rid of that irritating space.

If you’re looking for the Perfect Fit, this 9ct white gold diamond bridal set will ensure your engagement and wedding ring join together without a gap insight. With its diamond halo cluster and delicate milgrain edging, this vintage inspired set is sure to achieve fairy-tale elegance that will complement one another perfectly.
With the ever popular trend of vintage inspired jewellery still on the rise, an intricate and feminine ring can be the perfect accompaniment to your engagement ring.

With your wedding rings chosen and safely in the hands of your Best Man, it is time to choose wedding jewellery sure to make you sparkle on your special day.

Pearls are always a wedding must-have, and choosing the right jewellery to match your dress can be challenging; do you go for subtle or statement??

For a bold yet elegant look, this pearl bead wrap bracelet is perfect. Wear with a simplistic dress for a bold, vintage inspired look. For a limited time only enjoy Buy One Get One Half Price across all pearls, so if you’re thinking of mixing and matching, why not team your statement bracelet with a delicate pair of subtle pearl drop earrings, like these sterling silver and freshwater pearl pair for effortless chic.

All that glitters.... Gold crush!

Since the beginning of time, the luxuriousness of gold has made it a desirable choice for jewellery. One of my favourite things about gold is that it comes in a selection of tones, namely white, yellow or rose. All three are equally as stunning, but each create a completely different look.

You can’t go far wrong with a classic white gold item, whether you’re buying that precious engagement ring or just treating yourself. Such a sought-after metal in this timeless colour is ideal when it comes to wanting something you will cherish for life, safe in the knowledge that it won’t go out of fashion.

If you’re looking for your latest white gold piece of jewellery, why not accessorise your favourite look with a feminine locket? Perfect for holding sentimental photographs and memories for years to come and not only this, a fabulous fashion must too. This white gold diamond locket is the perfect way to hold on to those precious memories. With a little dash of sparkle, this is a beautiful keepsake that can be worn with pretty much anything. Layer up with longer pendants for a mix/match boho inspired Spring/Summer look.

In its purest form, gold shines in a warm yellow hue, but it was not long ago that yellow gold was considered old fashioned and shunned for what was regarded the more modern substitute, white. However, with the return of vintage chic and a desire for all things antique, I for one am very excited to see the comeback of the classic yellow gold! With its versatile style and summery tone, it is easy to add a delicate touch of timeless elegance or an edgy twist with a bold, statement piece.

The natural lustre of gold is hard to resist, however the price tag can sometimes put it out of reach. This striking Together bracelet is made of bonded 9ct yellow gold and silver, making it that bit more affordable whilst still looking just as luxurious - so let’s get gold crushing ladies!

Gold jewellery also comes in a warm rose tone, sometimes referred to as pink or red gold. This colour option has also crept up in the fashion world, its feminine hue bridging the gap between white and yellow gold. Rose gold made its debut as a subtle accompaniment in tri-colour pieces, or layered together with other metals. However, it is now standing its own ground and items made of rose gold are just as eye catching – some may argue more - as pieces made in its alternative tones. This Seksy rose gold-plated watch is the perfect example of this. With its striking design and glitzy detailing, it definitely shows how this once overlooked colour gold has earned is place at the fashion forefront.

Be sure to take a look at the stunning gold jewellery H.Samuel has to offer and pick your favourite colour gold.
